Lauren Martens is a Program Manager with The Financial Literacy Group and serves clients on a variety of financial education projects.
Ms. Martens has an extensive background in financial services field, both in Canada and the United States. Prior to joining The Financial Literacy Group, Ms. Martens worked in financial planning, overseeing several aspects related to savings, income and investments. Working in coordination with advisors from various insurance and investment companies, she was responsible for both conceptualizing and implementing financial planning strategies suitable to meet the demands of both individual and corporate clients.

Her experience in financial services fostered her interest in understanding the ways in which people orient themselves to the financial world, particularly in the sources of information they use to do that. She pursued a Master’s degree with an emphasis on political and financial communication. Her graduate research focused on the global financial crisis of 2008, the role of the media and its implications for public policy. Previously, Ms. Martens held various positions in the legal field working with lead counsel on trial preparation, including legal research and document preparation, mainly in the area of insurance fraud and litigation.
Through both her professional and academic experience, Ms. Martens was able to hone her skills in project management and evaluation, research methods, strategic communications and outreach while developing a broad understanding of finance at the international, national and household levels.
Ms. Martens has a MA in Media and Public Affairs from The George Washington University, Washington, DC and a BA (Honors) in Political Science from the University of Victoria, in British Columbia.
