Christopher Bumcrot

Mr. Christopher Bumcrot is the Director of Market Research and in that role designs, manages, and analyzes qualitative and quantitative studies of financial literacy and related subjects for The Financial Literacy Group and its clients. Mr. Bumcrot uses his years of experience as an applied social researcher to ask the right questions and discover valuable, actionable insights for the firm’s clients.

As founding partner of Applied Research & Consulting LLC (ARC), Mr. Bumcrot has conducted primary research into Americans’ financial literacy, attitudes and behaviors through his work on a number of important studies. Specifically Mr. Bumcrot was the lead researcher on the United States’ first National Baseline Study of Adult Financial Capability which was released in 2009. He has also led research on the financial literacy of military families and of senior citizens. Though these and other projects Mr. Bumcrot collaborated with leading organizations in the US financial literacy movement including the U.S. Treasury Department, the Employee Benefits Research Institute, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the U.S. Social Security Administration and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority Investor Education Foundation.

In addition to his financial literacy work at ARC, Mr. Bumcrot has conducted research in the financial services, technology, media, and B2B sectors for over 15 years. At ARC, he advised senior management at a wide range of global organizations, including AICPA, Bell Canada, CBS, Citibank, Condé Nast, FASB, FINRA, GE Healthcare, Intel, KPMG, MasterCard, Pharmacia, Qwest, Sony, Time Warner, Viacom, and The World Bank Group.

Prior to founding ARC, Mr. Bumcrot was an Executive Vice President of Robinson Lerer Sawyer Miller, the strategic communications division of Bozell Worldwide. At RLSM, Mr. Bumcrot managed the firm’s relationships with NYNEX, Merck, and Prudential Insurance. He also served as EVP of the firm’s research subsidiary, KRC.

In 1985, Mr. Bumcrot founded Loan Pricing Corporation (LPC), a financial software and database publishing firm that specializes in helping commercial banks and other financial institutions manage loan portfolios and track pricing in the primary and secondary corporate lending markets. At LPC, Mr. Bumcrot created and launched Gold Sheets, which continues to be the industry standard source of pricing data in the corporate loan market. LPC is now a subsidiary of Reuters Holdings PLC.

Mr. Bumcrot earned his B.A. in Applied Mathematics from Yale University.
