Dr. Vusal Hasanov serves as a Senior Program Manager for The Financial Literacy Group. He provides support on variety of projects, and taps his expertise on research, strategic analysis, project management and program development in the field of financial literacy.
Prior to joining The Financial Literacy Group, Dr. Hasanov was an early leader in the financial education movement in his native Azerbaijan. At the Central Bank of Azerbaijan, he was the senior specialist at the Central Bank’s Center for Research and Development. In that role, he executed a variety of high priority projects related to financial education. For instance he played a key role in adapting VISA’s “financial football” online video game to Azerbaijan in 2012, which entailed developing modules on economic and financial topics for a broad audience. He also performed critical research and analysis in the Central Bank of Azerbaijan’s efforts to develop a national financial literacy website and a national strategy for financial literacy. Additionally, he worked with Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Education to develop and deliver capacity building for teachers and to incorporate financial literacy issues in school curriculum. In recognition of his contributions to the development of financial education programs in Azerbaijan, he was selected by the Central Bank to represent Azerbaijan at several international conferences and seminars on financial education and financial inclusion across Europe at prominent organizations including the Bank of England, National Bank of Poland, and Banca d’Italia.
Dr. Hasanov has also interned at the World Bank Headquarters in Washington D.C. During his time at the Bank, he supported the Europe and Central Asia finance and private sector team on projects relating to SME access to finance.
In 2013, he was awarded a Hubert H. Humphrey fellowship granted by the U.S. Department of State. As part of the fellowship, he pursued his professional development and graduate studies at Pennsylvania State University. He is member of the American Education Research Association (AERA) and Project Management Institute (PMI), and holds PMI’s Project Management Professional (PMP)® credential.
Dr. Hasanov also taught for more than four years in public and private universities in Azerbaijan. He holds a Ph.D. in management and an MBA from the Gazi University in Turkey, and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Hacettepe University also in Turkey. Additionally, he speaks Russian, Turkish and Azerbaijani.
